“We know the task at hand”- Payne assures of Super Falcons’ commitment to deliver Olympic ticket

The Super Falcons are the most successful team on the continent, but they have not been at the Olympics since 2008

Super Falcons star Toni Payne has stated that the team is prepared to take down Ethiopia ahead of their game on Tuesday at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Soccernet reports.

Nigeria held Ethiopia to a 1-1 draw when both teams met at the Abebe Bekila Stadium in Addis Ababa last week. However, the ladies would be looking to do better when they welcome the Lucy to the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Sunday.

Coach Randy Waldrum’s women are absolute favourites on paper because of the gulf in quality between both sides. And ahead of the game, Nigeria midfielder Payne had stated that the team is committed to securing the win.

“We know the task at hand is to qualify for the next round of the Olympic qualifiers,” Payne told Brila FM.

Nigeria are condemned to beat Ethiopia and go all the way to qualify for the Olympics because they have not featured in the competition since the Beijing 2008 edition. Any kind of win or a goalless draw would be good enough for Nigeria. A 1-1 draw would push it to penalties, but any draw with a higher scoreline would knock the Super Falcons out.
