Montpellier’s Akor Adams joins former Arsenal and Chelsea stars in Ligue 1’s Team of the Week

The former Nigeria youth international returned to goalscoring form at the weekend to highlight his enduring quality

Montpellier striker Akor Adams has been recognised as one of the most outstanding players in the French Ligue 1 at the weekend, Soccernet.ng reports.

Adams fired home two fantastic goals to propel Montpellier to a commanding 0-3 away win at FC Lorient on Sunday.

Before his excellent display at the Stade Yves Allainmat – Le Moustoir, Adams had gone four league games without a goal.

But the former Lillestrom star applied a simple finish to Mousa Tamari’s cut-back in the 30th minute for the opening goal against Lorient.

He then completed his brace with a smart run and shot in the last minute of regulation time.

And according to L’Equipe, Adams’s display was enough to see him share the attacking spots with Monaco striker Folarin Balogun in the Ligue 1 Team of the Week.

The former Arsenal forward scored a goal and grabbed an assist in his side’s thrilling 3-2 win over Marseille.

Former Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic also made the selection for the Best Eleven courtesy of his display for Rennes in their 3-1 derby triumph over Moses Simon and Nantes.

Following his brace, Adams has now become the second most prolific goalscorer in Ligue 1 with five goals – alongside Nantes ace Mostafa Mohamed. Only PSG forward Kylian Mbappe, who has found the net seven times, has more than the former Flying Eagles striker.
