The Super Falcons were knocked out in the round of 16 of the World Cup, but they put up a strong performance

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, welcomed three Super Falcons stars to the state house on Tuesday, Soccernet reports.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons put up a strong performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

They went unbeaten in their group for the first time ever and kept two clean sheets. They could have easily topped their group, but they failed to beat Ireland.

In the round of 16, where Nigeria were expected to be run over by England, they put up a remarkable performance, pushing the Three Lions till the very last minute. Unfortunately, they lost out via a penalty shootout.

Following their performance at the Mundial, the Super Falcons have gotten a lot of praise. On Saturday, Osun State Governor called Atletico Madrid star Rasheedat Ajibade and promised to host her and Rofiat Imuran.

Also, Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu hosted some of the Super Falcons players in Abuja upon their return to the country.

The latest public office holder to host the Super Falcons players is Lagos state Governor Sanwo-Olu. He revealed this via his X page.

“Honoured to have received some team members of our remarkable Super Falcons at the Lagos House in Marina earlier today,” Mr. Sanwo-Olu wrote.

“Asisat Oshoala, who came in company of Rasheedat Ajibade and Monday Gift, came to pay us a courtesy visit.

“The Super Falcons’ incredible run at the FIFA Women’s World Cup has ignited a new era of enthusiasm for women’s football in Nigeria.

“Their achievements on the field and the unity they brought to our nation are truly remarkable. We will continue to empower and encourage our female athletes and also work towards a brighter future for women’s football in Nigeria.

“A big thank you to these amazing ladies for their visit and for the gifts of the clubs’ jerseys.”

The three players who visited the Governor started their careers at Lagos-based club Robo FC.
