The Nigerian international had no equal in the Belgian top flight before he left for greener pastures
KRC Genk are reportedly eager to bring back Paul Onuachu from English club Southampton, as the Nigerian striker failed to make an impact during his time with the Sky Bet Championship club, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onuachu moved to Southampton from Genk in January but struggled to find the back of the net, failing to score a single goal in his 11 league appearances for the Saints.
Recent reports indicate that Genk have a strong interest in re-signing the 29-year-old forward.
Onuachu enjoyed the most successful time of his career at Gent. The Super Eagles striker scored an impressive 79 goals in 114 league appearances for Genk.
Onuachu had a particularly exceptional year in 2021. He secured several accolades, including the Belgian First Division A Top Goalscorer, the Belgian Professional Footballer of the Year, the Belgian Golden Shoe, and the Ebony Shoe. Additionally, he was named to the Belgian First Division A Team of the Year.
This achievement cements his place as one of the most prolific goal-scorers in Genk’s history.
Apart from Genk, several other clubs have also been linked with the Nigerian international.
Bundesliga sides Borussia Monchengladbach, Union Berlin, Stuttgart, and Schalke 04, as well as Turkish Super Lig outfits Trabzonspor and Besiktas, are among the clubs reportedly interested in acquiring Onuachu’s services.
