The Super Falcons of Nigeria stunned the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup host, Australia, with a score of 3 goals to 2 in Brisbane
Republic of Ireland women’s team coach, Vera Pauw, has expressed her thoughts ahead of their clash against the Super Falcons of Nigeria tomorrow, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria stunned the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co-host, Australia, with a score of 3 goals to 2 at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
Randy Waldrum’s troops established themselves as a threat to opponents, and coach Pauw whose team is to face the nine-time WAFCON champions on Monday, acknowledged the formidable strength of the Nigerian side.
The Nigerian women’s team earned a draw against the Olympic champions, Canada, and stunned the Australian fans with a victory against the Maltidas.
However, the Amsterdam-born tactician highlighted Nigeria’s physical prowess, skill, and remarkable speed, which have made them a force to be reckoned with in the Women’s World Cup.
Pauw speaking to the media that despite their FIFA ranking of 52, the Waldrum’s girls are a team to be wary of.
“We have a fantastic game tomorrow to play,” she added. “Nigeria are ranked 52 (by FIFA) but we all agree now that they are so, so strong. They are physically strong, they are skilful and extremely fast so there is a huge task on our plate. I want to concentrate on the game.”
The Irish coach emphasized the significance of the upcoming match for her team, stating that it holds great importance for their morale, pride, and overall performance in the tournament.
The 60-year-old added: “That game is crucial for us, for our feeling, our pride and for the tournament.”
With Ireland needing a win and hoping for a favourable result in the Australia vs Canada game, the match against Nigeria carries immense significance for their chances of advancing from the group stage and avoiding the bottom position.
