Naija Super 8: NPFL Newbie Sporting Lagos gun down Changi Boys to secure semi-final ticket

Sporting Lagos after securing promotion to the NPFL, have continued to impress fans, after reaching the Naija Super 8 semi-final.

Newly promoted NNL side, Sporting Lagos F.C. have secured a Naija Super 8 semi-final spot after defeating Katsina United with a score of 1 goal to nil, Soccernet.ng reports.

The new NPFL side went through a group that featured the NPFL champions, and the second in last season’s league summit, yet went through the group stage unscathed, winning two and drawing just one to secure a spot in the semi-finals, alongside local south-west rivals, Remo Stars.

Sporting needed just a point to secure qualification after accruing four points in their first two games, but went all out against the Changi Boys at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

Henry Ndidi and star man, Rivio Anyemerewe had chances to open the scoring in the first twenty minutes, but could only come close, as they stepped foot on the gas.

The only goal of the game came in the thirty-ninth minute as Silas Nenrot went on a rampage, taking two centre-backs on a decoy body movement, before firing home at the near post.

They maintained momentum throughout the game and could see the game out till the final whistle. The win means Sporting Lagos, alongside Remo stars, will qualify from Group A and will join semi-finalists, Lobi Stars and Akwa United.

The semi-finals will be played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Friday, 14th July. Remo Stars take on Lobi by 2pm, and Sporting Lagos take on Akwa United by 4:30pm.
