“I’m just having fun”- Barcelona star Oshoala reacts to scoring in third consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cup

Oshoala was caged in Nigeria’s first game against Canada, but she came out with her guns blazing against Australia

Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala is unmoved despite becoming the first African player to score in three different World Cup tournaments, Soccernet reports.

Nigeria claimed a shock 3-2 victory over Australia in their second game of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and Oshoala played an important role for the nine-time African champions.

She was introduced into the game in the 62nd minute while it was still 1-1. However, her introduction turned out to be the magic the Super Falcons needed.

She caused the corner that led to Nigeria’s second goal in the 65th minute. Then seven minutes later, she scored the third for the Super Falcons.

Asides from its impact on the game, the goal etched Oshoala’s name in African football history. It ensured that she became the first African player to score in three consecutive World Cup tournaments.

The 28-year-old celebrated the goal wildly as she even got carded after taking off her shirt. However, she is rather casual about her achievements.

“Scoring in three World Cups is me just having fun and just enjoying my career,” Oshoala told Victor Modo.

“I’m just a young girl going out there to have fun, and I’m glad I’m able to walk on this journey with my teammates because they are amazing and hardworking people.”

Nigeria play their final group stage game against Ireland on Monday, and Oshoala would be looking to replicate her heroics against the weeping girls of Group B.
