Nigerian football legend Austin Okocha graced the Republic of Chad’s National Football Championship final as a special guest of honour, accompanied by Senegal’s Khalilou Fadiga, Soccernet.ng reports.
The electrifying atmosphere at Diguel stadium added to the spectacle as fans eagerly awaited the clash between the country’s top football teams, As PSI and Elect Sport.
In a thrilling match, As PSI emerged victorious with a last-minute goal, courtesy of an own goal by Elect Sport’s player, Aldongar Natar.
The defeated team, Élect Sport, received 5 million CFA francs, while As PSI, the triumphant side, was rewarded with 15 million CFA francs.
The post-match award ceremony saw Okocha and Fadiga among the esteemed guests of honour.
The event recognized not only the winner and runner-up team but also the best player, goalkeeper, and top scorer of the championship.
Brahim Ousmane from Éléphant d’Amtiman clinched the honour of being the top scorer with 12 goals, and he was presented with 300 thousand CFA francs by Fadiga.
The coveted title of the championship’s best player was bestowed upon Hissein Ousmane, who received 300 thousand CFA francs from the hands of two-time BBC Africa Player of the Year Okocha.
Even after his retirement, legendary former Super Eagles captain Okocha continues to receive recognition and honours.
Widely regarded as one of the best African players in history, he remains an icon for clubs like Eintracht Frankfurt, Fenerbahce, PSG, and Bolton Wanderers.
In a further testament to his impact, there are ongoing discussions regarding his potential appointment as Nigeria’s next Minister of Youth and Sports.
