2023 FIFA WWC: “We’ve got this”- Atletico Madrid star Ajibade ready to take on Kerr-less Australia

The Super Falcons are 30 places below Australia, but Ajibade is optimistic that they will get a result

Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade is optimistic that Nigeria will get a good result when they play Australia in their second game of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Soccernet reports.

Nine-time African champions Nigeria picked a hard-fought point from their first game against Canada on Thursday. It was a spirited performance from Randy Waldrum’s ladies as they put up a defensive masterclass to ensure it ended goalless at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.

The Super Falcons still have all to fight for, as they square off against Australia at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. It is expected to be a tough game for Nigeria as the Matildas are thirty places above them in the FIFA rankings. They are also full of confidence after defeating the Republic of Ireland in their opening fixture.

However, what counts in the Super Falcons’ favour is that Australia have never gone past the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Also, they will be without their star attacker Sam Kerr.

Atletico Madrid Femeni striker Ajibade is aware that Australia will be tough customers. Still, she believes that the Super Falcons can get a good result.

“It’s going to be a difficult game playing against the host country in a very big stadium against a huge crowd”, Ajibade told NFF TV.

“We are going to play against a lot of factors, but we’ve got this. We have done it against big teams, so I trust the whole team.

“Also, We have the capacity, we have the energy, we have the talent, and we have the strength. We just have to bring out our A-game.”

A win for Nigeria could guarantee them a spot in the next round.
