Troost Ekong reveals why Super Eagles’ will play better against Sierra Leone in AFCON Qualifier

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are looking to secure a victory against Sierra Leone on Sunday to guarantee their spot in the 2023 AFCON tournament

Super Eagles vice-captain, William Troost-Ekong, has highlighted the crucial factor that will contribute to an improved performance against Sierra Leone in the upcoming AFCON qualifier, Soccernet.ng reports.

With the likes of Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Kelechi Iheanacho called up to the Nigerian squad, Troost-Ekong believes that the connection between these football stars will be vital.

The Watford FC defender, having been in the Super Eagles team since 2015, reveals that the current squad is the best squad he has seen.

However, with Guinea-Bissau currently leading Group A in the AFCON qualification table, Nigeria is determined to close the gap and solidify their position.

The Dutch-Nigerian previously emphasized that the team is still motivated by their disappointing exit from the 2021 AFCON tournament, and their immediate priority is to secure a victory against Sierra Leone.

However, he noted that the current squad, filled with football stars who have been excellent at the club level, is key to securing maximum victory against Sierra Leone.

“I have been part of the squad since 2015. I have experienced a lot of players and a lot of coaches. But I think the last year’s team has been the best I have seen. I think also, we have more football stars in the team that have been put together. It’s such a good connection and part of those things that would make us play better. ” he told Soccernet.ng.
