Dessers has been heavily linked with Rangers since Cremonese dropped to the Serie B, but he may be unwilling to leave
Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has rejected a transfer to Scottish Premiership club Rangers because he wants to remain in Italy, Soccernet reports.
Dessers’ future has been in the balance since Cremonese got relegated to the Italian Serie B. The 28-year-old Nigerian striker just joined the club from Genk last summer, but things did not work out for him in his first season.
He only managed seven goals and two assists in 29 appearances for the Grigiorossi. Following their relegation, Dessers has been heavily linked with former Scottish champions Rangers.
The Gers are looking to add some firepower to their squad as they prepare to challenge Celtic for the title next season.
However, according to Football Scotland, Dessers is not interested in leaving Italy. This comes after reports of interest from Torino.
The Gers have had a good relationship with Nigerian players recently. Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey were two of their best players before they left for Southampton and Ajax respectively.
Dessers could cost €6million at least. Nonetheless, Cremonese are not in a hurry to sell, as the Nigerian still has four years left on his current deal.
