Umar has been out of action since last September, but he is back and ready to go
Super Eagles striker Sadiq Umar had his first training session at Real Sociedad on Tuesday, eight months after he sustained a cruciate ligament injury, Soccernet.ng reports.
After a successful campaign that saw him register 18 goals and nine assists in 38 appearances for Almeria, Real Sociedad signed Umar for €20million.
The 26-year-old attacker started with a bang, scoring on his debut against Atletico Madrid. Unfortunately, Umar sustained a nasty cruciate ligament injury in his third game against Getafe on the 11th of September.
Since then, he has been on the sidelines, missing 43 games in the process. However, the club have been decent this season. Even though they were knocked out of the Europa League in the Round of 18 by Roma, and lost out to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey, Real Sociedad sit fourth in Laliga and are on the brink of qualifying for the Champions League.
The club posted a video of Umar joining up with his teammates in training. They welcomed him with a guard of honor, after which he proceeded to the full training session.
Real Sociedad play champions-elect Barcelona next weekend, and Umar would return to the squad. However, he may not start, but he is expected to get some minutes.
