NPFL Roundup: Enyimba seal away win, 3SC impress away, Insurance remain unbeaten

The Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) saw nine matches played on April 16th, with a mixture of draws and wins across the board.

Kwara United hosted Enyimba at the Kwara State Stadium, with Enyimba emerging as victors with a 2-1 win. The game was fiercely contested, but Enyimba’s resilience proved too much for Kwara United as Chijioke’s brace drowned Kadiri’s first half penalty for the hosts.

At the Awka City Stadium, Rangers played out a thrilling 2-2 draw against Niger Tornadoes. A second half double from Idris helped the visitors claw back to earn a draw after falling behind twice before halftime. The game was an end-to-end affair, with both teams displaying attacking prowess.

Remo Stars also played out a draw at home against Bendel Insurance, with the game ending 1-1. Nwachukwu’s fine 21st minute strike cancelled out Mawuena’s opener for Remo to ensure the Benin Arsenal continued their unbeaten run.

El Kanemi played host to 3SC at the El Kanemi Sports Complex, with both teams failing to find the back of the net as the game ended in a goalless draw.

In another closely contested match, two late goals from Adejoh Ojonugwa helped Abia Warriors emerge as victors against Sunshine Stars with a 2-1 win. The game was a tight affair, with both teams giving it their all.

Plateau United hosted Akwa United at the New Jos Stadium, with the home team securing a narrow 1-0 win thanks to Mustapha’s 36th-minute penalty. It was a hard-fought victory for Plateau United, who held on to the lead till the final whistle.

Bayelsa United secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Lobi Stars at the Samson Siasia Stadium. The home team dominated the game, with Lobi Stars struggling to create any clear-cut chances.

Doma United also secured a 2-0 win over Wikki Tourist at the Gombe Township Stadium. It was a comprehensive victory for Doma United, who dominated the game from start to finish.

The final match of the day between and Rivers United and Dakkada match was paused due to weather conditions and would be completed on Monday morning. The reigning champions led the visitors at the time of suspension.

Overall, it was an exciting day of football in the NPFL, with several closely contested matches and some impressive performances from the home teams.
