“I remember Osimhen’s obsession” – How Napoli striker left lasting impression on ex-Lille coach

Former Lille assistant coach Jorge Maciel has spoken about his experience working with Napoli and Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen.

Maciel, who was part of the coaching staff during Osimhen’s time at Lille, shared some insights into the player’s personality traits that left a lasting impression on him.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Tutto Napoli), Maciel revealed that he was struck by Osimhen’s obsession with improving his game, despite already having a successful season with Charleroi in Belgium before joining Lille.

He described how Osimhen would come to training with an eagerness to learn and grow as a player.

One anecdote that stood out to Maciel was when Osimhen showed up to training one day with newly dyed blond hair. The young player’s willingness to experiment and take risks with his appearance demonstrated his confidence while still showing deep respect for the coaching staff and his fellow players.

What was said?

“I remember Osimhen’s obsession with wanting to improve,” Maciel said.

“He came to us after a positive year with Charleroi in Belgium. One day he showed up with blond hair. At the time, he was 21 years old, and he didn’t speak French, so I became his translator.

“Even in those days, he was humble; he listened to every piece of advice. He sat there, calm and quiet, and learned anything.”

Maciel’s fond memories of working with Osimhen are a testament to the player’s work ethic, humility, and willingness to learn.

Osimhen’s impressive traits have been crucial to his development, as the 24-year-old is now the most valuable player in Italy with an estimated worth of €100 million.

Soccernet.ng reports that the Nigeria international has 25 goals this term, with 21 in Serie A powering Napoli’s surge towards a historic league title.

The other four have been in the Champions League, which has been crucial in helping the Naples-based club reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time ever.

  • For sure he is a fantastic player with a bright future but he must accept any offer to join any attack minded team in Europe expecially in England. Napoli is one of the best teams in the world right now but, they don't count attack and that is what AC Milan used to over comes them. Some of his team mates are selfish looking for self glory.
