The Nigeria international returns to the national fold after missing the team’s last couple of games
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has assured Nigerian fans that the Super Eagles will do ‘everything possible’ to come out on top against Guinea-Bissau when they meet in Abuja on Friday.
Nigeria will host Guinea-Bissau in Group A’s gameweek three fixture of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.
Osimhen missed the Super Eagles’ last few games of 2022, top of which were the defeats to Algeria and Portugal.
But the Serie A top goalscorer breezed into the Nigerian camp on Tuesday as he is expected to lead the Eagles attack as they seek to start with a win in the first match of 2023.
35th-ranked Nigeria will start as favourites against the 118th-ranked Djurtus, but Osimhen assures that the Eagles have no intention of underrating their lowly foes.
“We are looking forward to it,” Osimhen told the NFF Media Team.
“And I am happy to be back with the squad. It’s an amazing feeling and we are really expecting an amazing result in the two-legged game against Guinea-Bissau.
“We don’t underrate our opponents. We want to equally give them the respect they deserve. The boys are ready. We have high spirits. We are ready to give our all come Friday. And also in the second leg in Guinea-Bissau. I am looking forward to the game and to contribute also to the team.”
Nigerian fans have endured watching the team lose to Algeria, Costa Rica, and Portugal in the absence of Osimhen.
In the last match Osimhen played, the Napoli ace scored four times to power Nigeria to a 10-0 win over Sao Tome and Principe.
And the 24-year-old has promised the team’s supporters to expect the win and plenty of goals on Friday.
Osimhen said, “I want to promise them (the fans) that we will do everything possible to get the win. I will like to contribute with a lot of goals and a couple of assists as well.
“But of course, the team comes first. I want to assure them that we’ll do everything to make them entertained and happy by getting a win and also getting a qualification to the Afcon.”
Nigeria will seal their spot at the next edition of the Afcon in Ivory Coast with wins in the doubleheader against Guinea-Bissau.
