After scoring 17 goals in 18 league games for the Parthenopean, Osimhen has lately gained attention and caught the eye of certain European teams.
Former Nigerian International, Mutiu Adepoju, has predicted Victor Osimhen to be named the next Africa’s player of the award.
The former Super Eagles player, who has 48 appearances for Nigeria, feels no one can match Osimhen’s level of performance.
The 24-year-old has been on fire for Luciano Spalletti’s team this season, scoring a plethora of goals and helping them pull ahead of their rivals for the Serie A title by 16 points.
Comparatively, to other African players, Osimhen has scored 17 goals in 18 league match appearances for Napoli and is currently leading the Serie A scoring chart with 5 goals, followed by Ademola Lookman with 12 goals.
Due to Liverpool’s dismal run of play, Mohammed Salah, who had hoped to earn his third African player of the year title, has only been able to score 7 goals in 20 Premier League games for the Reds.
But according to Mutiu, the Nigerian ace is the finest right now and no one can perform to his level.
He told Brila FM that “Nobody is at the level he is now, and I believe he still has time ahead to do more.”
However, the former Shooting Stars player noted that Osimhen is the most likely candidate to win if the African Best Player nomination were to occur right now.
“If now was the moment to pick the African best player, he will win it easily.” The 52-year-old says.
After scoring 5 goals in January, including a brace against Juventus, the Super Eagles’ star was voted the Serie A player of the Month for the month of January.
