The Super Eagles striker has 16 league goals this season, but Graziani believes he could score more
Former Italian striker Ciccio Graziani wants Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen to brace up and take more penalties at Napoli so that he can add to his goals tally.
Osimhen has been great for Napoli this season. He has registered 16 goals and four assists in 17 Serie A appearances for the Partenopeans.
The 24-year-old Super Eagles striker has taken a firm grip on Napoli’s frontline after Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens left the team last summer.
Insigne was the designated penalty taker for Napoli during his time at the club. However, after he exited the club, Osimhen was supposed to take over from the Italian attacker.
However, Osimhen has shied away from taking the spot kicks this season. He has taken just one penalty this season, and that was a miss against Liverpool in the Champions League. Osimhen has handed the responsibility to his teammates.
Former Italian striker Graziani is happy with what Osimhen has achieved this season, but he wants the former Lille man to brace up and start taking penalties
“I address Osimhen directly and tell him: Victor, what are you doing? He should not move shy away from taking the responsibility for penalty kicks,” Graziani said per Napoli Magazine.
“He should take the ball and kick them. He is missing out on a great opportunity to score even more goals.
“In every season, the various top teams have at least seven, eight penalties each. I am thinking of Ciro Immobile who has scoredd many in the past. I give Osimhen one piece of advice: don’t be afraid.”
Napoli have won six penalties in the league this season and Osimhen has scored none. If he took more penalties, he could have ended the highest goal talk already.
