Awoniyi’s Nottingham is now in the Premier League’s danger zone and will need to fight a determined battle to avoid being demoted.
Super Eagles forward Taiwo Awoniyi has not been impressed by Nottingham Forest’s position in the Premier League standings.
The Tricky Trees have only won three of the Premier League games, losing 8 of the matches out of 15.
Recall that Forest was busy strengthening their squad in the last summer transfer window as they acquired new players for the City ground stadium.
As their big comeback to the Premier League looms, the newly promoted team made a mark with their 21 signings.
However, Garibaldi also broke a British record by signing this many players.
One of the signings Nottingham made was Awoniyi, who was the then-record signing from the German team, Union Berlin.
In light of the club’s current position in the English Premier League despite the number of additions, the 25-year-old said:
“For me, every day when you look at the table, it’s something that really bothers us, to be honest,”
“Looking at the players we brought in, looking at how you want to grow as an individual, how you want to develop, and finding yourself not getting to the target of what you wanted as a player or as a team is something that bothers you,” he told NottinghamshireLive.
Before the world cup break, Cooper’s side put up some good performances, beating Tottenham in the EFL Cup and edging past Crystal Palace in their EPL encounter.
“But I believe, as time goes on, we will get out of it. We showed what we can do in the last few games. We just have to keep the momentum and keep going.
“At the beginning of the season, it was a bit difficult with the way we started. But in the last couple of games, we have improved. We are getting to where we want to be as a team.” Awoniyi said.
After losing two club friendlies against Stoke City and Atromitos, Nottingham will be hoping to turn things around when they play Olympiacos on December 10, 2022.
