Denmark 0-0 Tunisia: Carthage Eagles avoid Super Eagles 98’s fate, grab vital result against compact Danes

The Super Eagles fell like a pack when they squared off against Denmark in 1998, but Tunisia did one better against the same opponent

The Super Eagles of Nigeria lost 4-1 to Denmark at the 1998 World Cup, but Tunisia refused to toll that path as they held Denmark to a goalless draw in their opening game of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Tunisia played Denmark in their opening game of the Mundial at the Education Stadium in Al Rayyan.

The Danes were massive favourites going into the tie, but the Carthage Eagles were looking to do Africa proud and claim a result.

Tunisia were quite impressive at the start and matched up everything the Danes threw at them. They ceded possession, but they looked very dangerous whenever they got the chance to attack.

In the second half, Denmark were more fiery as they went in search of the opener. However, Tunisia held on strong to keep the Europeans out.

Denmark had a late penalty call, but after a VAR review, the referee decided against awarding a penalty.

Tunisia held out for the 0-0 result and it was Africa’s first point of the World Cup after Senegal lost to Netherlands on Monday.
