Nwakali’s career so far

Nwakali moved to Arsenal shortly afterwards and, from there, went on loan at VV Venlo and later Maastricht before leaving permanently for Huesca.

The 24-year-old midfielder was on loan at Alcorcon between January and June last year and soon after had his contract terminated by Huesca.

The Super Eagles ace joined Ponferradina on a free transfer in July. On Sunday, he scored his first goal in almost a year and a half as Ponferradina lost 1-2 at home to Real Zaragoza.

On the international scene, Nwakali was a member of the Nigerian squad that reached the knockout stages of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon earlier this year.

He made his debut for the three-time African champions in the 1-0 win over Egypt on matchday one, replacing Kelechi Iheanacho in the 80th minute.
