“He’d have killed me” – Udogie’s potential Tottenham rival speaks about goal and Conte

Ryan Sessegnon scored one of Tottenham’s four goals against Southampton on Saturday and said his manager would have killed him if he didn’t get into that position

Destiny Udogie’s closure to Tottenham means the competition for places at the North London club will be rife for next season.

Udogie, a goalscoring wing-back will compete for places next season against Sessegnon, who has grown in leaps and bounds in the last six months.

The former Fulham defender became a regular under Conte and is being encouraged to get in dangerous positions.

Against Joe Aribo’s Southampton on Saturday, he found himself in that position, heading in Spurs’ equaliser from a Dejan Kulusevski cross.

“If I hadn’t scored that, he would have killed me to be honest!” the 22-year-old told Sky Sports after the game per FootballLondon.

“There was a moment a couple of minutes earlier when I arrived too late and I knew I couldn’t arrive too late the next time Dejan did it.”

Conte’s wing-backs are known to fly and provide great attacking impetus and be goalscoring threats. At Chelsea, he achieved it with Marcos Alonso and is doing same with Sessegnon at Spurs.

With Udogie expected at the Tottenham Stadium next season, the manager is building a competition for the future as he has two young wing-backs to be helped by 33-year-old Perisic who understands his demands.

“If you remember maybe five minutes before there was a cross and he was behind his opponent. On the bench we were really upset with him because he has to attack the second post and find the right position,” said the Spurs boss.

“After three minutes then he scored and we were pleased and celebrated a lot because five minutes before he wasn’t in the same place to score. Today he scored another goal. He was always in our offensive position. It was good. I’m happy for him because he has great potential but has to show this potential.”
