The Super Falcons are close to claiming a tenth continental trophy, but they have a tricky tie against the host country
Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has stated that the players are prepared to face Morocco in their semifinal fixture of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria lost 2-1 in their opening fixture against South Africa. However, they have picked themselves up since the loss.
They won their remaining group games outstandingly and set up a tie against host country Morocco after a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Cameroon in the quarterfinals.
Nigeria face a tricky tie as the Atlas Lionesses would have the backing of the fans. However, Waldrum insists that his team is in the right frame to do business on the pitch.
“The players are excited we are going to the World Cup,” Waldrum said as per OgaNla Media.
“We have been able to recover. We are looking forward to the game on Monday evening.”
“I saw Morocco last year in September and I am impressed with the kind of football they play.
“Their football is outstanding and how they have been able to develop the game. We have a big challenge and we won’t take the game lightly. We have respect for them.” Waldrum added.
Nigeria are favorites to advance considering the antecedents of both teams. Nigeria have won nine titles while Morocco will play in their first ever semifinal in this year’s competition.
Nonetheless, the Atlas Lionesses could be deadly. They would be playing in front of their fans, and it would take great mental strength for Nigeria to stay focused.
