WAFCON 2022: Botswana coach talks tough ahead of clash with Super Falcons

The Super Falcons suffered a defeat in their opening fixture, and the Botswana ladies are still looking to inflict more pain on the nine-time African champions

Botswana coach Gaoletlhoo Nkutlwisang believes her team has what it takes to beat the Super Falcons in their second game of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Falcons kicked off their title defense in an abysmal manner, losing their opening fixture against South Africa. The Banyana Banyana were the overall better side, and they were rewarded with a well-deserved 2-1 win.

Nonetheless, Nigeria have the chance to redeem themselves when they square off against Botswana in their second match.

The Mares of Botswana claimed an interesting 4-2 victory against Burundi in their first game of the competition. Still, the fixture is a typical example of a David-Goliath matchup.

Botswana are over 100 places below Nigeria in the FIFA rankings. In fact, this year’s competition is their first-ever appearance in the African Women’s showpiece.

However, Botswana coach Nkutlwisang is not bothered by her team’s inexperience. Rather, she believes that they can match whatever the Super Falcons offer.

“We fancy a good challenge,” Nkutlwisang told Cafonline.

“One thing for me as a coach, I want to play against the big coaches, and for the team, we want to face the best.

“That motivates us so we will go out there and show who we are as Botswana.”

The Super Falcons were poor in their first game. But if they bring their A-game against Botswana, it could end up in a basketball scoreline.
