Three Nigerian-descent players to play for Manchester United in the prestigious cup

Manchester United recently revealed its squad for the prestigious STATSports SuperCupNI, and three Nigerian-born players, Victor Aigbomia Musa, Maximillian Oyedele and Habeeb Ogunneye, all made it into the team. This can definitely be considered a serious upgrade and the beginning of great things for the young players if they perform well. Notable players from Manchester United like Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Wes Brown, and Marcus Rashford all played the STATSports SuperCupNI and proceeded to achieve tremendous results with Manchester United.

Brief History of the SuperCupNI

The SuperCupNI is surely one of the most anticipated junior football competitions. It all began in 1983 in La Roche-sur-Yon, France, when the Irish FA president, Harry Cavan, announced the commencement of the tournament. Formerly known as NI Milk Cup, the tournament is hosted by the UK. Despite several challenges, the tournament continued to run from 1983 to the present day. Several top teams from Europe such as Manchester United, Leeds United, Valencia and more take part in the SuperCupNI every year hoping to lift the magnificent cup. The tournament comprises four male age groups – U13, U14, U16 and U18 – and one female age group taking part in U16 games. The STATSports SuperCupNI tournament, usually played yearly, had to go on intermission due to the 2019 Covid pandemic and this will be the first time in over two years the tournament will be fully held. Running from July 24 to 29th, 78 teams will participate in the week-long summer event held in three different local Council areas: Antrim and Newtownabbey, Causeway Coast and Glens, and Mid and East Antrim.

Every football tournament comes with fans eagerly waiting to bet on the outcome of matches, however, as confirmed by topbettingapps.co.uk, UK bookmakers are not accepting wagers on STATSports SuperCupNI.

Players Stats

The three selected Nigerian players all have an incredible opportunity to show the world their talent. Victor Aigbomia Musa, born September 5, 2006, will play in the U16 team for the Junior category with the number 11 as a striker. This is not the player’s first time in the SuperCupNI. He took part in the 2021 edition of the tournament, where his name was included on the scoresheet for scoring in less than 17 minutes after the match against Coleraine FC began. The youngster was born in Tudela, Spain to Nigerian parents and plays in the U16 Spanish national team. He began playing in Club Deportivo Lourdes before moving on to St Bede’s and St. Joseph’s Catholic College, England between 2017 to 2021. He joined the Manchester United Youth Academy on July 1, 2021, where he currently plays as a left winger and striker.

Maximilian Oyedele, born November 7, 2004, is a Polish and English citizen. The 17-year-old joined the Manchester United U18 squad on the 1st of July, 2021, with a contract that runs 30th June, 2023. He plays as a defensive midfielder and has participated in the U18 Premier League, FA Youth Cup, UEFA Youth League and the Polish national team.

Habeeb Oguneye, was born November 12, 2005, in England to Nigerian parents. The 16-year-old played in the Manchester United U18 and currently plays in the Man. United U19. The right-back played in the U18 Premier League, UEFA Youth League, England U17 national team, and won the FA Youth cup alongside Maxmillian Oyedele.

Both Maximillian Oyedele and Habeeb Ogunneye are included in the Manchester United U19 squad who will face Northern Ireland U19s in matches scheduled for July 25 and July 27.

Conclusion

This is definitely a great opening for the young players who are still in the early phases of their professional football careers. All players have incredible talent and the stats to prove just how valuable they are to a team. The 2022 STATSports SuperCupNI is set and talent scouts are ready to snatch up players who will be exceptional assets to their teams.
