Borna Barisic has been impressed with Calvin Bassey’s performance this season and believes the Nigerian will only get better
Rangers Croatian defender and Bassey’s teammate, Barisic said the Nigerian defender has everything it takes to be at the top level.
Bassey has reduced Barisic’s game time this season as he has sometimes been preferred in the left-back position by Dutch manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst.
The Croat is however elated to have the young Nigerian take the step up this season and impress at Ibrox.
“He’s my boy! He’s a good guy and a very good player.
“I think he has improved this season very well and he can play both at left-back or centre-back, ” Barisic said as reported by Daily Record.
“But we know his qualities. He’s very strong and it is very tough to play against him.
“He has the ability but even more important is that he is very calm and down to earth.
“He is strong mentally and he always wants to learn from everybody and wants to listen.
“I think that is a thing which is even more important than all the ability he has. This is the main reason I think he has a very bright future in football.”
Bassey was signed from Leicester last season as he struggled to break into the first team at the King’s Power Stadium. He has earned the trust of Van Bronckhorst this season and has featured in many games for Rangers.
He was voted Rangers Young Player of the Year in March and has helped the team to the final of the Europa League.
