Samson Siasia, a former coach of the Super Eagles has faulted the decision of Austin Eguavoen to invite new players to the squad.
Siasia, in a chat with Brila FM said the list is not a good list as it wasn’t cautious enough.
“You need to play people that understand themselves if you bring new ones it becomes difficult for them to understand themselves and play the partner you want to play,” Siasia said.
“For me it’s not the right decision to bring new players, you are better off with the ones you know already that have been playing together and understand themselves because you have three days to practice before you go to Ghana. So for me this is not the right list.”
Eguavoen invited Akinkunmi Amoo, a 19-year old winger, for the first time to the Super Eagles. He also extended an invitation to Ademola Lookman who recently switched allegiance to Nigeria from England.
Siasia and Eguavoen were part of Nigeria’s USA 94 squad and had at different points coached the Super Eagles before. Eguavoen, however has the job again and is being assisted by former national teammate, Emmanuel Amuneke.
Nigeria will face arch rivals Ghana in a double header on the 25th and 29th of January.
