“We will try to win” – Ex-Chelsea star Victor Moses issues Europa League warning

The ex-Nigerian international helped Spartak advance past the competition’s group stages and has set his sight on the ultimate prize

Former Chelsea star Victor Moses is confident that Spartak Moscow has the quality to go all the way and win the Europa League this season.

Moses has been one of Spartak’s most excellent performers on the continents, with his brilliant displays powering the Russians to the knockout stage of Europe’s second-tier club competition.

The 31-year-old contributed one goal and four assists in six group matches as Spartak recorded three wins and one draw to finish top of Group C ahead of Napoli and Leicester City. By contrast, Moses has only one goal in 15 league matches for the Red-and-Whites.

With Spartak advancing straight to the quarterfinals of the Europa League, Moses insists no one should rule out the chances of the People’s Team.

“Yes, we reached the 1/8 finals, and everything is possible there,” Moses said as per quotes obtained from Sovsport.

“In such matches, the chances are 50/50. We will try to win. But first, you need to work well as a team. And then we can achieve everything. Never say never. We will continue to work and do our best to get as far as possible.”

Moses recently signed a new deal with Spartak, extending his contract with the Gladiators, which will see the former Chelsea wing-back stay in Moscow until the end of the 2023-2024 season.

The ex-Inter Milan man has scored six goals and added eight assists in 42 appearances for Spartak while playing in a number of different positions for the Gladiators.

And Moses insists he has no problem being deployed in any role manager Paolo Vanoli desires.

“I am a versatile player. I can play on the left or on the right in defense, closer to the attack on the right or on the left edge. Everywhere. The main thing is that it benefits the team,” Moses maintains.

“I will do everything on the field that the coach asks. I want to get stronger as a player and as a person. Help the team as much as possible.”

A former Wigan and Crystal Palace star, Moses’ most successful period came at Chelsea, where he won two Europa League titles, the 2017 Premier League and the 2018 FA Cup.

Before he retired from international football, Moses lifted the Africa Cup of Nations trophy with Nigeria’s Super Eagles in 2013.
