In Moses Simon’s first game since his return from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the Super Eagles star was on the losing side as Nantes fell 1-0 at Strasbourg on Sunday.
Simon has been one of the Canaries’ finest performers this season, contributing three goals and six assists. And the 26-year-old walked straight into the starting eleven as Nantes sought their 10th league win of the campaign.
But despite Simon’s presence, Strasbourg were still the better side, edging the possession, creating the better chances, and having more shots at goal before Dimitri Lienard’s 74th-minute effort sealed the win.
At the Stade du Moustoir, Super Eagles midfielder Innocent Bonke made his maiden appearance for Lorient in the side’s 2-0 win over Lens on Sunday.
Bonke only signed for Les Merlus on a free transfer in January, but he was fit enough to make the starting eleven for the home side alongside compatriot Term Moffi.
And the former Malmo FF defensive midfielder was instrumental to Lorient keeping their second clean sheet in 16 league games.
Sambou Soumano and Malian international Ibrahima Kone got the goals that powered Christophe Pelissier’s men to only their first victory in any competition since September.
Bonke featured for every minute of the encounter, while Moffi was replaced by new signing Kone midway through the second half.
