“I’ve always been a Manchester United supporter” – After Ighalo, another Super Eagles striker confesses affection for Premier League giants

The Red Devils are one of the most followed clubs on the face of the earth, and a Nigerian footballer has counted himself among the club’s most adoring fans

Nigerian international and Almeria forward Umar Sadiq has revealed his undying admiration for English Premier League giants Manchester United.

Previously on the books of Roma, Rangers, and Partizan Belgrade, Sadiq is the star man and most valuable player for Segunda Division side, Almeria.

The 24-year-old’s goalscoring exploits for the Spaniards have seen him previously linked with Newcastle, Barcelona, and Sevilla, and even Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

But it is City’s bitter rivals, United, that held a special place in the heart of Sadiq since he was a child.

“I’ve always been a supporter of Manchester United; I watch all their games,” Sadiq said, as per Cronache di Spogliatoio.

“Last time I went there with Partizan in the Europa League, and it was like being a child again.”

Sadiq is not the first Nigerian international to confess his childhood support for United, with 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top-scorer Odion Ighalo revealing similar affection before signing on loan for the Red Devils two years ago.

Despite his affection for United, Sadiq remains committed to Almeria’s promotion cause, with the former AS Roma starlet contributing 12 goals in only 23 league games this term.

Despite spending a few weeks with the Super Eagles at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Sadiq is still only three goals shy of the Segunda Division’s leading scorers. The trio of Cartagena’s Ruben Castro, Girona’s Cristian Stuani, and Real Oviedo’s Borja Baston all presently boasts 15 goals apiece.

Having scored four goals in his last three matches for Almeria, Sadiq will aim to be on the scoresheet again when they face Fuenlabrada in another league tie on Friday.
