AFCON 2021: Watford star Dennis finally speaks following his Super Eagles withdrawal

The ex-Club Brugge man was included in the three-time African champions 28-man squad, but he will not play for the team in Cameroon

Watford attacker Emmanuel Dennis has wished the Super Eagles all the best as they go for a fourth continental title at the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Dennis should have been with the squad in Cameroon as he was named in the Super Eagles 28-man team for the competition.

The 24-year-old had expressed his delight after finding out he was included in the team.  However, he was dropped from the squad after his club Watford prevented him from playing for Nigeria in the competition.

The Hornets claimed they could not release Dennis because the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) did not send his invitation at the appropriate time.

Nonetheless despite the disappointment of missing out because of administrative issues, Dennis has sent his well-wishes to the team.

The former Club Brugge attacker took to his Twitter account to wish Austin Eguavoen’s men success in Cameroon.

The Super Eagles begin their quest for a fourth AFCON title with a tie against seven-time champions Egypt.

  • Dennis doesn't know that he is really missing for not going to AFCON...All finest African players are in Cameroon and u'r there sending well wish message... That's a dumb message. No one game 2013 set of super eagles any chance and dey won it. What of if dey win dis AFCON?....U'll now be saying to urself that "I had known". The chance dat many players are looking for...May u av forgotten what John Mikel Obi for Chelsea in 2019 AFCON...dat lead to Anthonio Conte putting him on d bench and selling him. There's much prospect for super eagles than Wartford. Going to AFCON with super eagles will increase ur market value than being with relegated bound Wartford team....Wise up next time

  • Maybe all you guys giving Emmanuel Dennis such a hard time have conveniently forgotten that only 4 months ago Nigeria didn't want him or even contacted him. Suddenly now, mainly thanks to superior training and guidance at Watford (a club with a great history and fierce support for it's players), when he performing so well do you want him. Watford have acted honourably throughout, it is Nigerian football that needs to take a long hard look at itself - they'll never win anything again unless they have a clear out - Watford's future is much more rosy. Come on Egypt.

  • Watford's future rosy? U must mean in the championship. The Dennis you guys claim to develop scored twice against Real Madrid in the champions league don't forget. He is ours to choose whenever we want. Afterall you guys don't pick every player for the fake lions of England.
