Nigerians abroad: Sadiq ignites Almeria’s promotion charge; Amoo, Ekpai, Yusuf score crucial goals

Soccernet.ng brings you the highlights of some of the top matches involving Nigerian players in Europe on Sunday

Umar Sadiq claimed an assist as Almeria recorded a straightforward 2-0 victory over Burgos at the Estadio de Los Juegos Mediterráneos in a Segunda Division game week 15.

Sadiq gave the crucial pass that led to José Carlos Lazo’s opener for Almeria two minutes after kick-off before Arnau Puigmal netted the second for the hosts five minutes into storage time.

The win boosts Almeria’s promotion hopes, with the league leaders now six points ahead of second-place Eibar.

Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze continued his reintegration into the Villarreal team after returning from injury as he featured for the last 20 minutes in his side’s 1-0 win over Getafe at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Manu Trigueros struck what proved to be the winner in the tenth minute, as the Yellow Submarines climbed to 12th on the Spanish La Liga table with the win.

Young Nigerian midfielder Alhassan Yusuf scored his first goal for Antwerp since his summer switch as Brian Priske’s men stunned Anderlecht 2-0 Bosuilstadion in Deurne.

With the game locked at zeros, Yusuf opened the scoring in the 63rd minute before Frey added a second eight minutes from time.

Former youth international Akinkunmi Amoo was among the goals as Hammarby returned to winning ways with a 3-2 triumph at home to Orebro.

The visitors were losing 2-1 before Amoo smashed home his ninth goal in 26 league games in the 66th minute. And Gustav Ludwigson secured all three points for the hosts with his 85th-minute strike.

Nigerian star Ubong Ekpai came off the bench to net the last goal in Slavia Prague’s 5-0 thrashing of Pardubice in the Czech Liga game week 14 clash at the Stadion Ďolíček.

It was the 26-year-old midfielder’s first goal for the reigning Czech champions since his switch from České Budějovice in the summer.

Super Eagles forward Peter Olayinka played for the last eight minutes of the encounter.
