The German tactician is on the brink in his role as the coach of the three-time African champions, but there is still no official word from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)
Gernot Rohr’s future as the Super Eagles head coach is still uncertain despite reports claiming he has been sacked.
Rohr is close to getting the boot following a series of unimpressive performances from the Super Eagles. The 68-year-old recently led the three-time African champions to the playoff round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
But despite that, the consensus is that the Super Eagles have looked uninspiring in the last two years, and the German needs to go.
However, with just a month before the Africa Cup of Nations starts, there is still no official confirmation from the NFF.
Although they released an official statement last week, it only debunked rumours of his sack. But they did confirm they are reviewing his position.
But while Rohr’s on the brink, the NFF and the Sports Ministry are at loggerheads over a potential replacement for the former Burkina Faso coach.
The Sports Ministry wants a local coach to take over, but the NFF is looking for another foreign manager. And with just over a month before the start of AFCON, it is not an ideal situation for the Super Eagles.
