The 2015 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations winner scored for the fifth consecutive match to take his tally in the Bundesliga to seven
Taiwo Awoniyi was only seconds away from leading Union Berlin to their second away victory of the season, but Stuttgart struck late to salvage a 1-1 draw.
Awoniyi put Union in front in the first half after his left-footed shot was deflected past the Stuttgart goalie. The hosts, however, refused to give up despite being playing much of the second half with ten men.
And they got the reward they deserved when Wahid Faghir scored a brilliant equaliser in stoppage time.
When the effect of the disappointing result wears off, Awoniyi would be pleased with his sixth goal in his last five games.
The Super Eagles star found the net in consecutive games against Maccabi Haifa, Mainz (brace), Wolfsburg, and Feyenoord, before his effort at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
The former Liverpool loanee has now scored seven Bundesliga goals, the most he has netted in all the league championships he has been involved in.
Only on two previous occasions has Awoniyi hit the seven-goal mark in his career.
The Nigerian international found the back of the net seven times in 27 league games in his first loan spell at Belgian side Excel Mouscron during the 2017-18 season.
And he matched that tally in nine games with the same club during the second half of the following campaign while also on loan from Liverpool.
Awoniyi managed just five goals in 21 league matches for Union Berlin last season, but it was enough to convince the Iron Ones to shell out a club-record €6.5 million to persuade Liverpool to part with the 24-year-old permanently.
