Victor Osimhen’s latest strike lifts Napoli into the Italian Serie A record books

The Nigerian international has smashed in three goals in his last two matches, the latest of which has helped the Neapolitans hit another landmark in the Italian top-flight

Victor Osimhen scored a real poacher’s goal to hand Napoli the lead en route a stunning 4-0 victory over high-flying Udinese at the Dacia Arena in Udine on Monday night.

It was Osimhen’s first Serie A goal of the season and it comes just days after he blasted two quality strikes past Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in a Europa League clash.

Showing all the hunger of a traditional goal-poacher, Osimhen was quick to poke home a delicious Lorenzo Insigne lob that seemed destined for the net, breaking the deadlock for the Parthenopeans after 24 minutes.

That goal lifted Napoli straight into the Serie A record books, with the Neapolitans becoming the third team, after Juventus and Milan, in the history of Serie A to score in at least 30 games in a row.

The last time Napoli failed to find the back of the net in a Serie A match was on December 20 when Ciro Immobile and Luis Alberto combined to hand Lazio a 2-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Osimhen missed that encounter due to a shoulder injury suffered during Nigeria’s 2022 Afcon qualifier against Sierra Leone in November which ended in a 4-4 draw.

Three more goals from Rrahmani, Koulibaly and Lozano sealed a comfortable victory for Luciano Spalletti’s men against Udinese, ensuring the new Serie A leaders maintain their perfect start to the season. Napoli have won all four of their Serie A games this season.

I Partenopei have also now won eight of their last nine top flight outings on the road, losing the other one.

Their latest triumph also sees the Neapolitans seal their tenth win in the last eleven meetings with Udinese including a 5-1 thrashing of I Bianconeri at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in May.

Osimhen featured for 70 minutes on that day but was not among the goalscorers before Dries Mertens took his place.
