Transfers: Francis Uzoho and the top Nigerian deadline day deals you may have missed

A typically pulsating and unpredictable last day of this summer’s transfer window witnessed Saul Niguez move to Chelsea, Luuk De Jong switch to Barcelona, and Antoinne Griezmann sensationally return to Atletico Madrid.

Nigerian stars were not left behind in the race to switch clubs before midnight, with Soccernet giving you the top gist as it happened.

Former Eredivisie joint-top goalscorer Cyriel Dessers left Genk for Feyenoord on loan, completing a return to familiar Dutch surroundings.

Ike Ugbo’s arrival at the Belgian FA Cup winners pushed the Nigerian international down the pecking order of strikers.

Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho have been joined at Leicester City by Ademola Lookman, with the Super Eagles hopeful making another loan switch from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

There are, however, certain deadline day deals involving Nigerian stars that happened seemingly under the radar.

Dessers is not the only Super Eagles star to depart the Luminus Arena on transfer deadline day, as compatriot Stephen Odey also left to team up with Danish Superliga side Randers FC.

It’s a loan deal, but the Horses have included a purchase option for the 23-year-old who spent last season on loan at French Ligue 2 side Amiens.

Cypriot top league side APOEL Nicosia have announced that they have ended their association with Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.

The former Deportivo la Coruna shot-stopper joined Cyprus’ most successful club in 2020, but injuries limited him to just 24 appearances in all competitions for the Legends.

Presently in Nigeria on international duty, the 22-year-old free-agent can sign for any other club even after the transfer window’s closure.

Premier League giants Liverpool FC have confirmed that Anglo-Nigerian winger Sheyi Ojo will spend the remainder of the 2021-22 season on loan at Championship side Milwall.

It’s the fifth loan spell in recent times for the 24-year-old, who has equally enjoyed stints at Fulham, Reims, Glasgow Rangers, and Cardiff City.
