The Black Sea Storm are showing that they will be involved in the Turkish top-flight title race with another hard-fought victory away from home
Nigerian forward Anthony Nwakaeme could not add to his goal haul, but he was still impressive as Trabzonspor secured a narrow 1-0 win over Kasimpasa at Recep Tayyip Erdogan Stadium.
Following a goalless first half, Nwakaeme popped up just before the hour-mark to set up Anastasios Bakasetas for the game’s only goal.
But hard as he tried, the former Hapoel Beer Sheva ace could not add to his four league goals for the Black Sea Storm this term.
Nwakaeme had scored in each of Trabzonspor’s first four league games, matching the 44-year record set by club legend Necmi Perekli. The 32-year-old had breached the nets of Galatasaray, Yeni Malatyaspor, Sivasspor, and Giresunspor.
Aside from Nwakaeme’s disappointment, it’s shaping up to be a title-chasing season for Trabzonspor as coach Abdullah Avci’s men provisionally return to the top of the Super Lig table with their latest victory.
The Trabzon-based club boasts 13 points from five matches, but Besiktas could overtake them if the reigning champions win at Alanyaspor.
