Nigeria’s striker Taiwo Awoniyi has stated his readiness to begin the new German Bundesliga season for his Union Berlin side.
In his first competitive game after his permanent switch from Liverpool, Awoniyi supplied the assist for Max Kruse’s winner in Union Berlin’s DFB Pokal tie against Turkgucu Munchen.
There’s no stopping the 2013 U-17 World Cup star who scored five goals and gave two assists in 21 Bundesliga appearances while on loan last season
Union returned to Germany at the beginning of August after camping in Austria since mid-July for their pre-season campaign.
After beating Turkgucu Munchen in the DFB Pokal, the Berlin-based side began their training week to finalise plans for the Bundesliga season.
Speaking on their training week, Awoniyi affirmed his delight with the preparation his side were putting up.
“For me, it was good, like I’m always working hard for the team and getting prepared for the next game,” he said on Union Berlin’s social media pages.
The Iron Ones begin their 2021/22 Bundesliga campaign on Saturday as they welcome Bayer Leverkusen.
Ahead of the game, Awoniyi believes that his teammates have the ability to secure their first points against the Die Werkself.
“Yeah, I think they are a good team, but for us also it will be a good game because I believe In our team, I believe In the coaches, in what we are planning to do.
“The most important thing for us is the victory, and I think we will get that,” he added.
Awoniyi will try to help his Union Berlin side as they face a demanding fixture schedule with five games in 15 days.
