Afcon 2021: Nigeria handed a draw against Seven-time champions Egypt

The Super Eagles have been handed a tricky draw after they were paired against The seven-time African champions

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been drawn alongside Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau in Group D of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The draw for the biennial competition took place in Cameroon’s capital, Yaounde, on Tuesday night. The Super Eagles were one of the top seeds in Pot one.

However, they’ve been handed a tricky draw. Gernot Rohr’s men will take on seven-time Afcon champions Egypt, which is not an easy tie.

The three-time African champions will also take on Sudan, who denied 1996 champions, South Africa, a place in the competition.

Guinea-Bissau, are the last team in Nigeria’s group. Nonetheless, Nigeria will feel confident of progressing to the next stage alongside Egypt.

In the other groups, Cameroon were handed a relatively easy draw against Burkina Faso, Cape Verde and Ethiopia.

The Teranga Lions of Senegal were paired against Zimbabwe, Guinea and Malawi. Group C will see Morocco take on Ghana, Comoros and Gabon.

Defending champions Algeria lead Group E alongside Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea and Ivory Coast. Tunisia were paired against Mali, Mauritania and Gambia in Grop F.

The competition will run from January 9 to February 6 2022.
