The 21-year-old shot-stopper had a day to forget as The Castle Lords started their Eredivisie campaign with an embarrassing loss on Sunday afternoon
Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye conceded four times as Sparta Rotterdam suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at Utrecht in their opening match of the new Eredivisie season.
Sparta got off to a bad start, with Okoye picking the ball out of his net as early as the second minute after Adam Mahe put Utrecht ahead.
It stayed like that in the opening half, but Mark van der Maarel doubled the home side’s lead in the 66th-minute.
Further goals from Anastasios Douvikas in the 75th minute and Simon Gustafsson in the third minute of added time compounded Sparta’s misery.
It could even have been worse for Henk Fraser’s men if not for Okoye’s heroics. The Super Eagles goalkeepers made four saves, all of which came inside the box, while he also made two high claims.
Nonetheless, it was a bad day at the office for the Nigerian and a disappointing way to start the season.
