Umar Sadiq: Sevilla take transfer decision on prolific Nigerian forward

The Spanish La Liga giants are in the market for attacking reinforcements, with the former Nigerian youth international among a long list of strikers they are looking at

Sevilla have moved away from signing Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq after deciding that Almeria’s asking price of 30 million euros is high, as per the latest Andalucia Information report.

The Andalusia-based club is trying to replace Dutchman Luuk de Jong and Moroccan international Youssef En-Nesyri, with both strikers linked with a transfer away from the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

A revelation in the Segunda Division last season, 20-goal hero Sadiq has big fans in Seville, including sporting director Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo.

Ramon Verdejo, aka Monchi, knows a lot about Umar as he occupied a similar role at AS Roma when the 24-year-old was making his breakthrough at the club.

However, Almeria have made it clear that they will only start transfer negotiations for the Olympics bronze medalist with clubs ready to part with half of his 60 million euros release clause.

Sevilla have no intention of coughing out that much for any single player this summer, and they have ruled out the option of getting a deal done for Sadiq.

Los Nervionenses have already identified German-born Joselu as a replacement for de Jong.

Sadiq netted 28 goals in all competitions last season – six for Partizan Belgrade before moving to Spain, two in the Cup games, and 20 league goals for Almeria.

The former AS Roma starlet lists Manchester City among the clubs interested in his services. His contract with Almeria will not expire until June 2025.
