Transfers: Salernitana set to sign two Super Eagles stars

The newly-promoted side are planning to bolster their squad ahead of their return to the Italian top-flight after 23 years

Salernitana are currently in talks with two Nigerian players over a potential transfer. According to Football Italia, the newly-promoted side are interested in signing Joel Obi and Simy Nwankwo.

Salernitana will play in the Italian Serie A again after 23 years and feel the two Nigerian stars can improve their squad ahead of a challenging season.

Obi is now a free agent after his contract with Chievo Verona ran out in June. However, the 30-year-old has enough Serie A experience, having played for Inter Milan, Torino and Parma previously.

Meanwhile, in Simy, Salternina will be getting a proven goalscorer in the Italian top-flight. The 29-year-old scored a massive 20 league goals last season, although it wasn’t enough to prevent Crotone from going down.

The former Gil Vicente forward is reportedly on the radars of many Serie A clubs, but Salernitana appears to be leading the race now.

However, the Garnets may have to pay 10m euros to get their man.

Both Obi and Simy are Nigerian internationals, but they last played for the Super Eagles in 2018.
