The Nigerian midfielder is bound to leave Denmark in the coming weeks, but the Neapolitans were also interested in his services
Napoli have moved away from adding Frank Onyeka to their playing personnel after deciding he isn’t good enough to make the first-team, as per AreaNapoli.
Newly-promoted English Premier League club Brentford are believed to be leading the race for the FC Midtjylland midfielder.
But Napoli emerged as a potential suitor after being impressed by Onyeka’s natural talent, mixed in the right balance with physicality and speed.
The FC Ebedei product has been a key player for Midtjylland in the past two seasons, starring in the Champions League, the Europa League qualifiers, and the Danish Superliga.
But given the Wolves have the same owner as Brentford, Onyeka’s move to the Premier League is expected to go smoothly once the paperwork is completed.
But Napoli had the chance to scupper the deal with an offer of about €8 million.
However, the club has moved on to other midfield targets as the one-cap Super Eagles star is not ready to make the step up to a top team.
Onyeka, 23, arrived in Denmark at the age of eighteen, first starting in Midtjylland’s academy set up before going on to make his first-team debut in 2017/18.
