Sadiq, Onyeka, and the top Nigerian stars likely to switch clubs this summer

The 2021 summer transfer window officially opens on July 1st, leaving the door ajar for several top Nigerian stars to change clubs in search of greener pastures.

Certain deals involving some of the country’s footballers have already been concluded.

Fringe Super Eagles forward Emmanuel Dennis has joined Watford from Club Brugge focused on doing better than his last outing at Bundesliga club Cologne.

Full-back Tyronne Ebuehi was at FC Twente last term but will ply his trade at newly-promoted Serie A side Venezia this season after completing another loan switch from parent club Benfica.

More Nigerian stars are expected to follow suit in the coming weeks.

According to reports, the deal taking Midtjylland’s Frank Onyeka to Premier League new boys Brentford is all but done, and it could be announced shortly.

So many admiring suitors are lining up to snap up prolific Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu following his record-breaking season in Belgium.

West Ham are presently leading the race for his signature, and it appears only a matter of when and not if he will depart the Jupiler Pro League this summer.

Almeria’s Umar Sadiq has shown that he is a cut above the Spanish Segunda Division, and it is no surprise that a few clubs are falling over each other to secure his signature.

One of them – including Manchester City – could soon cough out the €30 million being demanded by his club.

A year after arriving in Napoli for a club-record fee, Osimhen is back in the transfer rumour mills with reports linking him to Tottenham Hotspurs.

It is presently looking likely that he stays out in Naples as he is keen on continuing his association with the Italian side.

Marseille are confident they can tempt Villarreal to part with exciting Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze. It would be a shock move, but anything is possible in football.

Simy Nwankwo may love Crotone, but it appears the time is right to leave Serie A’s recently demoted side.

The Super Eagles did his reputation no harm by scoring 20 goals during the just-concluded campaign, but it is a concern that it is only another Serie B club, Monza, that are pushing to sign him up.

Terem Moffi was one of Nigeria’s finest stars during the 2020/21 season, with the youngster netting 14 Ligue 1 goals in his maiden season in France.

Moffi could find himself at the centre of a transfer struggle should Borussia Dortmund allow star striker Erling Haaland to leave Signal Park. The German side has been credited with an interest in the newest Super Eagles ace.

Galatasaray, Besiktas, and Middlesbrough are reportedly working on loan deals for Henry Onyekuru, Chidozie Awaziem, and Josh Maja, respectively.

The trio spent much of the last term away from their parent clubs and are likely to do the same ahead of the next campaign.

Even more, deals could be around the corner for other Nigerian stars as the transfer window kicks into top gear.
