‘Indispensable’ – Ligue 1 Celebrates Terem Moffi After Historic Weekend

The youngster has been one of the brightest shining lights in the French top-flight this season, and it is little wonder that he is getting applause from all angles

On Sunday, Terem Moffi netted a hat-trick to help Lorient hand a 4-1 thrashing to fellow strugglers Girondins Bordeaux in a Ligue 1 clash played at the Stade du Moustoir.

The weekend haul took Moffi to 14 league goals in only his maiden campaign in the French top flight.

That remarkable feat catapulted the youngster past legendary compatriots, including Austin Okocha, Victor Agali, Wilson Oruma, and Samson Siasia on the list of the all-time highest-scoring Nigerians in Ligue 1.

Only five former Nigerian stars – John Utaka, Victor Ikpeba, Osaze Odemwingie, Taye Taiwo, and Brown Ideye – have recorded more goals than Moffi in France.

Even more incredibly, Victor Ikpeba is the only Nigerian in history to have smashed in more goals (16) in a single Ligue 1 season than Moffi’s haul of 14.

Six of Moffi’s strikes have come in his last three matches, with the Lorient number 13 scoring once against Lens and twice against Marseille before his hat-trick versus Les Girondins.

Fourteen goals and three assists for Moffi means that the former Kortrijk ace has contributed a staggering 44% of Lorient’s total goal haul so far, convincing Ligue 1 Uber Eats to tag him Mr Indispensable.

Lorient, though, continue to battle against dropping from the top-flight with Christophe Pellisier’s men just four points above the relegation zone.

But with Moffi in their ranks outsmarting defenders all over the country, Les Merlus are assured they have the best weapon needed to ward off any relegation trouble.
