Nigerians Abroad: Two Super Eagles Stars On Target As Iwobi Helps Everton To A Win

A couple of Nigerian players featured for their clubs in different European competitions with two attackers standing out from the rest

Kelechi Iheanacho scored his first league goal since July as Leicester City bounced back to winning ways following a 2-0 over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Iheanacho received a rare start from Leicester manager, Brendan Rodgers, and he took full advantage of the opportunity by opening the scoring.

The former Manchester City man headed home an excellent cross from James Maddison before playing a role in James Justin’s second as Leicester bounced back from the disappointment of losing at home to Leeds United.

Fulham had Ola Aina, who received a booking in the 59th minute. However, new signing, Josh Maja was not in the team as he did not sign on time to make the matchday squad.

In another Premier League game, Alex Iwobi was impressive as Everton also bounced back from losing to Newcastle with a 2-1 win over Leeds United at Elland Road.

Iwobi was on the pitch for 87 minutes as goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealed the win for Everton despite Leeds threat of a comeback courtesy of a strike from Raphinha.

The Nigerian international has now made 18 league appearances for Everton this season with just a goal to his name.

Meanwhile, in Germany, Emmanuel Dennis scored his first goal for Cologne, but it was not enough to help them into the quarterfinal of the DFB Pokal Cup.

The Billy Goats were knocked out on penalties by Jahn Regensburg despite taking a two-goal lead in the opening 30 minutes. Toluwalase Arokodare also featured for Cologne, coming on for his countryman in the 96th minute.

Finally, in France, Samuel Kalu was on the pitch for 72 minutes, but he could not prevent Bordeaux from a home loss to Lille.

Kalu has three goals in 13 league games for Les Girondins this season, but he could not add to his tally on Wednesday night.
