Champions League: Zaidu Sanusi Faces A Difficult Challenge In Cristiano Ronaldo

Europe’s biggest club competition is back after a two-month hiatus with two round of 16 matches scheduled for tonight

Super Eagles star, Zaidu Sanusi, faces the biggest test of his career yet when his Porto side welcome a Juventus side with Cristiano Ronaldo in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 encounter.

Sanusi, who joined Porto last summer, has had a brilliant debut season with the Dragons. The 23-year-old has played 28 times for the Portuguese champions this season, including all the Champions League group stage matches.

The former Santa Clara defender was brilliant all through the group stage and was even named in the team of the week once after scoring in the 2-0 win over Olympique Marseille.

However, he faces his biggest test yet tonight in Ronaldo and Juventus. The Portuguese superstar is the all-time top scorer in Champions League with 134 goals, including four in this season’s competition.

Juventus qualified for the round of 16 after finishing top of their group ahead of Barcelona, while Porto finished second behind Manchester City in their group.

Both sides have not really been convincing this season and had a disappointing result last weekend. Porto were held at home by struggling Boavista in the Portuguese top-flight while Juventus suffered a 1-0 loss to Napoli in the Italian Serie A.

Sanusi came on at half-time last weekend, but he is likely to start against the Old Lady tonight, and could have his hands full.

The 23-year-old is an attacking full-back, but he needs to be defensively aware tonight. It has been a brilliant debut champions league campaign for Sanusi, but he faces the biggest game of his career tonight.
