SPFL: Super Aribo Helps Rangers Complete League Double Over Rivals Celtic

The Nigerian international delivered a stunning man-of-the-match performance to help Steven Gerrard’s side confirm their superiority over the champions on Saturday

Super Eagles star Joe Aribo and defender Leon Balogun were excellent as Rangers secured a brilliant 1-0 win over Celtic at the Ibrox Stadium to complete a league double over their bitter rivals.

In the Ger’s biggest statement of intent in their league title quest, Rangers claimed their second league win of the campaign over ten-man Celtic thanks to Callum McGregor’s 70th-minute own goal.

Aribo had a hand in that goal, though, with the former Charlton Athletic midfielder seeing his header come off Callum McGregor and into the net.

Aside from his goal contribution, the Nigerian playmaker was arguably the most impressive Ger inside the Ibrox, making two key passes and winning seven of his 12 ground dwells while contributing three interceptions and four tackles.

However, the visitors will rue their missed chances, and Nir Bitton’s dismissal just past the hour mark for a professional foul for holding back Alfredo Morelos.

It was Celtic who dominated much of proceedings firing fourteen shots at goal in the game and scoring none.

But Rangers claim the win, though, despite having zero shots on target in the 90 minutes.

The win helps Rangers complete their first league double over the champions in recent years.

Steven Gerrard’s men move 19 points clear over Celtic on the Premiership table – with three more games played – and have the advantage over their foes in the race for this year’s title.
