NPFL: Plateau United Run Riot In Jos As Rivers United Maintain Perfect Start In Port Harcourt

Heartland’s worries continued as the Jos lords clinched their first win of the season

Plateau United were in their most brilliant element as they secured a commanding 3-0 victory over fellow slow-starters Heartland FC on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides had not won any of their matches before kickoff, but it was the Jos-based outfit that turned up at the stadium to force a bitter defeat down the visitors’ throat.

Muhammadu Zulkifilu gave the hosts the lead in the 19th minute when he headed past Heartland keeper Ejiogu.

It was two-nil to Plateau United ten minutes after the break when Amos Gyang scored from the penalty spot to extend their lead.

And the rout was completed on the hour mark, as Jesse Akila squeezed in his attempt from a tight angle to give Plateau a commanding lead.

With their first win of the season, Plateau United now boast four points from their three matches while Heartland continue the search for their maiden victory of the campaign.

At the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers United made it three wins out of three with a convincing 3-0 victory over high-flying Kwara United.

The Afonja Warriors won their only match played so far this term away at Plateau United but found the Pride of Rivers too hard to crack on Sunday.

Kwara goalkeeper Abdullateef Ishola dealt poorly with Lookman Binuyo’s set-piece, which allowed Ifeanyi Anaemena to head the ball into an empty net for the opener in the 31st minute.

And moments later, the hosts spectacularly doubled their advantage.

Stephen Gopey did brilliantly to dance past two Kwara United defenders before squaring the ball to an unmarked Aguda, who buried the ball from close range.

The final nail to the coffin was struck in the closing stages of the encounter by substitute Chika Godwin from the penalty spot.

Two away wins were recorded on matchday three of the Nigeria Professional Football League, with Rangers United claiming a 1-0 victory at Jigawa Golden Stars while Dakkada United also earned a similar triumph at Ifeanyi Ubah.
