Samuel Chukwueze scored his second goal of the season as Villarreal edged out Sivasspor, who were missing Kayode Olanrewaju, in their Europa League encounter at the Sivas Stadium.
Olanrewaju had scored in four consecutive matches before tonight’s encounter, but he could not add to his tally after missing the clash against the Yellow Submarines.
However, while Olanrewaju missed the game, his compatriot, Chukwueze was the star of the night as his lone goal ensured Villarreal returned to Spain with the three points.
The game started at a slower pace with both sides failing to create any clear chances. However, after a drab first-half, Unai Emery’s men finally found the breakthrough 15 minutes from time, courtesy of a Chukwueze strike.
The Nigerian international tapped into an empty net following a low cross from Jaume Costa. Chukwueze’s strike ensures Villarreal will finish top of Group I.
Emery’s men complete their group stage encounter when they welcome Qarabag to the Estadio La Ceramica next week.
