Super Eagles captain Wilfred Troost-Ekong got his first goal in the colours of Watford as the Hornets defeated Cardiff City 3-2 in a Championship game on Saturday.
The Nigerian defender delivered another fine performance and capped it with his first goal for the club as Vladimir Ivic’s men secured their sixth victory of the league campaign.
After a goalless first half, Andre Gray gave the home side a 54th-minute lead, but Gustavo Hamer equalized for the visitors barely ten minutes later.
Cardiff City completed their comeback moments later when Tyler Walker turned the ball into the Watford net to make the scoreline 2-1.
But a perfert Troost-Ekong header brought the Hornets back on leveled terms in the 66th-minute. It was the Nigerian’s first goal since joining Watford in the summer from Serie A side Udinese.
Senegal international forward Ismaila Sarr then converted an 83rd-minute penalty to claim all three points at stake for the impressive hosts.
The latest win, Watford’s sixth in eleven games, lifts the Hornets to second on the Championship table on 21 points, only one behind leaders Reading.
